Hypnotist In Sussex Can Cure Your Anxiety Disorder

I hear the words 'I have anxiety' quite a lot, but what does that mean?

So much of mental health care these days is about diagnosis. I did a one-day course a couple of years ago on anxiety treatment with hypnotherapy, and half the day was spent on defining and diagnosing the different types of anxiety. Personally, I feel this was a waste of time. Society has its labels, and they have their uses in the management of society, but as far as getting over the problem, they do not have much use to you.

Anxiety is a metaphor. There is no such thing. All psychology is a metaphor for complex neurological processes, which are chemical and electrical activity in the brain and body. Many people feel anxious, but they are not all doing the same thing in their minds to feel that way. You do not have anxiety – you are running a subconscious pattern that makes you feel anxious. No one runs the same pattern – your pattern is unique to you. It is a pattern that you run in order to keep yourself safe, but there are better patterns to run. Anxiety is a symptom, not a cause. To cure anxiety, you need to change that pattern, and hypnosis is an effective way to do that. Running a different subconscious pattern can really change your life.

The trouble with the phrase 'I have anxiety' is that you start to define yourself in terms of this metaphor, understand yourself in terms of something that doesn't exist. Understanding yourself seems better than not understanding what is happening, but anxiety is a myth, and the more you see yourself as anxious, the more embedded in your identity the anxiety becomes.

If you come and see me for Hypnosis in Sussex, I will identify the pattern that you run that makes you feel anxious and then, with hypnosis, I will talk directly to your subconscious and change that pattern using direct suggestion and metaphor. I do not treat the anxiety; I treat you.

UPDATE 18/11/2025
In the spirit of this post, I no longer accept or use the term ‘disorder’. This is a disempowering description of anxiety. I have worked with a lot of socially anxious people, where there was nothing wrong with them apart from unhelpful thinking, and thinking can be changed. I therefore do not use the term cure either. We can change patterns of thinking and feeling. We can resolve unresolved emotions, but there is no illness to ‘cure’. Also, the title’s claim is a little strong from my younger days - results cannot be guaranteed - but about 80% of my clients feel significantly better after three sessions.
