Allergy Therapy

Treating Allergic Symptoms As A Phobic Response

Allergies are widely thought of as a physical issue, of the body being intolerant to something, but if that is the case, why do they come on seemingly randomly and how do people often grow out of them? So what if allergies are a phobic response of the immune system? What if we treat allergies as we treat phobias – a misunderstanding in the mind / body system that something perfectly harmless is actually dangerous?

*Unfortunately I cannot offer this service to you if you experience anaphylaxis reactions for obvious safety reasons.

Do you have an allergy or food intolerance that affects your life in some detrimental way? Do you have an allergy or food intolerance that you have learned to live with, but you're curious about how good it would be living without it?

If there is a known medical reason for your allergy then this therapy is probably not for you, but if there is no known reason for your allergic response then I hope you can take comfort in knowing that there is a good chance we can get rid of it by treating the reaction as a phobia.

Phobia's are curious as people can become terrified by things as innocuous as a button or cotton wool. Their brain somehow puts these things in the same category as angry bears or hungry sharks which results in a fight or flight response. So what if an allergic response is just a phobia that creates a reaction in the immune system instead of the limbic system?

If cotton wool can be somehow perceived as dangerous then why not pollen or cat hair for example? You know that these things are not dangerous, but your mind/body system does not.

I use techniques very similar to the ones I use for anxiety, stress or anger issues to help your mind/body system understand that there is no threat in whatever it is that triggers your allergic response.

Using a mixture of hypnosis and thought experiments we will explore the unseen thoughts causing the bodily reaction and help you understand in body and mind that sneezing, itching, rashes, belly ache, wheezing or whatever symptoms you've experienced until now are not a mandatory response to that stimulus anymore.
